I knew from the very start that Gary Vee would end up on this series. The man is an anomaly. He is a key player in shaping the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders. He offers crazily valuable content at no charge. The content he creates has been essential to my transition into writing and becoming a better person overall.
Respect people’s opinions and have empathy to how they “got there” but know who you are.
Gary may target the self-employed normally, but I chose this quote because it doesn’t only speak to entrepreneurs. I, like many people, would too frequently weigh my own success based on the progress I’d perceive in others.
Rather than appreciating their journey and learning from the experiences they were willing to share, I’d elevate their accomplishments above my own. This negatively impacted my self-esteem and constantly left me feeling unfulfilled.
What changed is understanding that the things that other people did to get to where I wanted to be may have worked well for them, but what was important was keeping my own ideas at the forefront.
Combine the experience of others with your own goals and ambition. The result should hopefully be a fulfilling journey through a meaningful life.
